The loss of Ashley Cole and captain John Terry ahead of England's World Cup qualifier in Belarus on Wednesday's has been compounded by the withdrawal from the squad of West Ham goalkeeper Robert Green.
Green withdrew from the trip to Minsk because of soreness in his knee and will not travel to Minsk with the rest of the squad on Tuesday. England now have only two keepers to choose from for the Group six clash, David James and Scott Carson.
Terry had been struggling with a back injury and missed the victory over Kazakhstan while Cole has picked up a hamstring problem and he too will not travel.
Matthew Upson stepped into the side on Saturday and should keep his place. It is expected that Cole's Chelsea team-mate, Wayne Bridge, will step in to take the left-back slot. Rio Ferdinand will keep the captain's armband.
Terry had managed some gym work on Sunday but has not recovered sufficiently to make the plane.
Cole's withdrawal comes after he was booed by sections of the Wembley crowd after gifting Kazakhstan what turned out to be a consolation goal.
"It's disappointing to lose two very experienced players in John Terry and Ashley Cole for the game in Belarus,'' said Capello. "Unfortunately they have no chance of playing, so it is best they return to Chelsea.''
A statement on the Football Association's website read: "Terry worked with England physio Gary Lewin yesterday, but was unable to take part in training today with the squad.
"Ashley Cole has also been ruled out of the match due to a hamstring injury. Cole suffered a strain to his right hamstring during Saturday's game, and a scan yesterday has confirmed he will miss Wednesday's match in Minsk."
It will also be interesting to see if Capello sticks with the formation which ultimately proved too strong for Kazakhstan or keep faith with the side which started the match.
That means Capello must decide if he retains the width of Shaun Wright-Phillips and Theo Walcott, dropping Gareth Barry to the bench, or starts with the three-man central midfield which saw Barry, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard all in the side.
And Capello has also issued a warning to people who are dismissing Belarus as cannon fodder after England's fine start to their qualifying campaign.
Although they may be without the injured Alexander Hleb, Capello insists Belarus will be a dangerous opponent.
"They are not conservative at all,'' he said. "They move all over, like Arsenal, and pass the ball a lot.
"Belarus are a very dangerous side and this game will not be easy.''
Victory for England would see them set a record by winning their first four World Cup qualifiers.
